When do I use WAN port?

When a network cable to plugged from your existing ADSL/Cable/Fiber Modem to Blue WAN port of the Ezhotspot V series, the Ezhotspot V series becomes a wireless Router. In a location when you have a permanent internet access from a network cable, you canplug the network cable to the WAN port to use the following features of the Ezhotspot V series:

  • access to the Ezwizard Menu with an administrator password
  • use any VPNs enabled on the the Ezhotspot
  • use any Block Management enabled on the Ezhotspot
  • auto failover to a 3/4G connection if a USB dongle or a smartphone is detected


When do I use LAN port?

When a network cable is plugged from your existing ADSL/Cable/Fiber Modem to any of the Yellow LAN ports of the Ezhotspot V series, the Ezhotspot V series becomes a wireless access point. In a location when you have a permanent internet access from a network cable, you can use the plug the network cable to any of the LAN ports if you like to :

  • access to your network printer or storage connected to the existing ADSL/Cable/Fiber router
  • access to your wireless sound system connected to the existing ADSL/Cable/Fiber router
  • access to a Smart TV connected to the existing ADSL/Cable/Fiber router
You can also connect any other devices with a network cable to the LAN port of the V series. For example, a old computer or network printer without wireless functions. Note: To access the EzWizard Menu again, unlpug the network cable from the EzHotspot V series

Most of our resellers have in stock different variation of 3G/4G dongles for your needs. If you do not have one of the dongles listed above and do not intent to buy any at the moment, you will be delighted to know you can also connect any Android® or Apple® based smartphone with a valid data subscription to the USB port, which alternatively functions like a 3G/4G dongle. In a recent public survey, most adult owns at least 2 or more smartphones, thanks to the brilliant ideas of telecommunication providers with their bundled phone subscription to keep you tied to their services. These subscriptions are renewed every year or once every 2 years, offering you a free phone, which you simply find it very difficult to resist. Do the USB port support Storage devices?

The V4 USB port does not support storage devices. The V5 USB port supports storage devices (FAT32, vFAT & exFat only)



Transparent Repeater

The Transparent Repeater function creates a transparent wireless bridge to the joined network and allow both wired & wireless clients connecting to the EZ device to obtain networking credentials directly from your ADSL/Cable/Fiber Router or DHCP server instead from the EZhotspot. The result is that all devices will appear to be on a single network, making Network Access Storage, File & Printer Sharing, IP cameras, etc; easy to access. The Transparent Repeater is great if you planned on using the EZhotspot on a long term basis at home to extend the wireless signal of your original wireless router. The Transparent Repeater works only on open networks (no portal login required) or secured networks with WPA/WPA2 PSK encryption (used in most home and offices). The Transparent Repeater does not work on public hotspots requiring portal login, WEP encrypted networks (very outdated & unsafe!) and WPA/WPA Enterprise 802.1x encrypted networks. Note for V4 users: When you are going for your vacation, press and hold the reset button for 12~15 seconds and the device is ready to join to a new wireless network, simply no wires required! See below video how the V4 is repeating to a network "FISCHER" which a SONOS sound system is wirelessly connected to "FISCHER", but cannot find the SONOS sound system. When the transparent repeater mode is enabled with a different SSID "FISCHER repeater", the SONOS sound system can now be found.

Guest Wifi

The Guest Wifi function creates a separate wireless network for your guests to share the hotspot / remote wireless network you are connected to. It can either be password protected with a wireless key or preferably an open SSID which your guest can easily join to. The Guest Wifi is isolated from your private network, meaning any devices joining on the Guest Wifi SSID will not able to access or see your devices connected on your private wireless network or access to the Ezhotspot / Ezrepeater. Enter a Guest SSID which your guests can connect to and choose wireless key required if you prefer your guests to enter a wireless key to join to your Guest Wifi.

It is an implementation of onion routing, which encrypts and then randomly bounces communications through a network of relays run by volunteers around the globe. The Ezhotspot Extender has a easy 1 click to let you enjoy anonymous internet browsing using Tor®. The Tor® network disguises your identity by moving your traffic across different Tor servers, and encrypting that traffic so it isn't traced back to you. Now, you are in The Netherlands, the next moment you are in France or can be anywhere else in the world! OpenVPN uses client-server connection to provide secure communication between the client and the internet. The server side is directly connected to the internet and client connects with the server and ultimately connects with the internet indirectly. On the internet, the client is shown as the server itself and it uses the physical location and other attributes of server that means the identity of client is perfectly hidden. OpenVPN uses OpenSSL for encryption and authentication process and it can use UDP as well as TCP for transmission. Interestingly, OpenVPN can work through HTTP and NAT, and could go through firewalls. In Short, OpenVPN is popular because of numerous reasons, but mainly it : -

  • hides your original IP address
  • allows you to access websites blocked by your local Internet Service Provider and Hotspot providers
  • allows you to watch a local TV program when you are in a foreign region
  • can work over ports 80/443 which public websites normally listen on and which Hotspot Providers are not able to block
OpenVPN uses either pre-shared key, combination of user name and passwords or certificate to authenticate peers connected via OpenVPN and its major characteristics are its extensive support and strong features. How to create a OpenVPN connection? The EzHotspot Extender V4 has easy 3 methods to let you start enjoying a local TV streaming or private browsing on the internet, using the OpenVPN CLIENT. FREE VPN SERVERS - Click and select a region which you would like to join to and connect.
VPN SERVER LIST - A popular list of public VPN providers are downloaded. Select your subscribed VPN service and a region which you you would like to join to, enter your subscribed username and password and Connect.
UPLOAD A OVPN - If your subscribed VPN provider is not listed, you can still easily upload a ovpn profile, usually supplied by your VPN provider. In the case when the V4 is configured as a VPN SERVER, you can download this ezwifi.ovpn at the end of the configuration. This file will contain all the necessary configuration to join their service or the V4 as a VPN SERVER and may include CA certificate, Client Certificate, etc.

All you need now is a separate username and password, which is provided when you subscribe to their service. You can easily download a .ovpn file from the respective VPN provider's website.

In some cases, where the OpenVpn providers may provide you separately a CA certificate, a Client Certificate, Private Key or OpenVpn Static Key. These files are readable by text editors and you need to copy the complete contents of these files to the fields in the fields in the Ezsetup Menu of the OpenVpn configuration in the V4.

Note: It is important to copy the full contents of the CA certificate, Client Certificate, Private Key or OpenVpn Static Key; if they are not stored in the .ovpn file.

Block Management

With the Block Management function :

  • Block Devices Updates can prevent connected devices from automatic system & apps updates when using 3G/LTE or in bandwidth limited connections.
  • Block Cloud Storage Syncing can prevent connected devices from syncing with Cloud Storage services.
  • Block Blacklist can block publicly reported websites containing advertisement, suspected malicious software and adult contents.
  • Custom Websites & Keywords can block websites containing the desired websites or keywords.


DDNS is a service that maps internet domain names to IP addresses and allow you to access your home computer from anywhere in the world. DDNS serves a similar purpose to Internet's Domain Name System (DNS) in such that DDNS lets you to host a web or VPN server advertise a public name instead of numbers. Further, unlike DNS that only works with static IP addresses, DDNS is designed to also support dynamic (changing) IP addresses, such as those assigned by a DHCP server. That makes DDNS a good fit for home networks, which normally receive dynamic public IP addresses from their internet provider. The result is that if your IP address changes, your domain name will adapt to the new IP address. To use DDNS on the Ezhotspot Extender, you have to sign up at http://freedns.afraid.org/signup/?plan=starter with a free starter account. Only your email is needed for verification and a confimration will be sent to your email after registering. Check your spam boxes if you do not receive the confirmation. (Though if you like the service, you can make a donation at your discretion) After your confirmation, you can login to create your desirable domain name and obtaining the API which you will need to enter these 2 information in the Ezhotspot Extender. Ezhotspot Extender will then periodically check if your public IP has changed and upate to freedns.afraid.org, which takes 60 minutes to effect.


Can I extend the length of outdoor antenna?

Yes, you can extend the length of the outdoor antenna, preferably with a type LMR-200 low loss cable. One end must be a RP-SMA-Male connector and the other end is a RP-SMA-Female connector.


What is the Reset Button used for?

The Reset button allows you to make a SOFT or HARD Factory reset SOFT Factory reset

  • Keeps last 20 saved successful connections
  • Keeps minor firmware (ReL) updates
  • Password is changed to factory default
  • SSID "ez@xxxxxx" is changed to factory default
  • SSID key is changed to factory default
HARD Factory reset
  • Deletes all saved successful connections
  • Deletes minor firmware (ReL) updates (after V4 has internet, latest ReL updates are restored automatically)
  • Password is changed to factory default
  • SSID "ez@xxxxxx" is changed to factory default
  • SSID key is changed to factory default

How to make a SOFT Factory reset?

  1. Press & Hold the reset button for 12~15 seconds.
  2. Release reset button and wait until a solid Green LED appears. This may take while because the Ezhotspot Extender needs to shut down some running processes properly.
  3. After blinking Blue LED completes, the Ezhotspot Extender is ready again with default SSID and wireless key (shown on label at bottom of device).

How to make a HARD Factory reset?

  1. Press & Hold the reset button for 35~40 seconds.
  2. Release reset button and wait until a solid Green LED appears.
  3. After blinking Blue LED completes, the Ezhotspot Extender is ready again with default SSID and wireless key (shown on label at bottom of device).
